So, what does Donald Trump say about this? Well, Mr. Trump’s advice according to The Trump Blog is to simpIy do everything possible to stay in your home. He says, that talking to the mortgage lenders and trying to strike a  deal is the best thing to do. “The banks don’t want to own your house.” says Mr. Trump. The reason behind this is because as long as your in your home, there’s more of a chance for them to get some of your mortgage payments still, even if they are partial payments.

If you’re having extreme difficulty making your payments, call your lender and try and explain your situation. If you explain to them that you are willing to do everything you can to stay and that you’d like to pay your mortgage if they would lower the interest rate, chances are they will try to work with you. The reason behind this is because if you’re making payments at a lower rate, you’re still making payments an the banks are still ahead.

Donald Trump says, “Fight with your bank. Love your bank. Do whatever you have to do, but don’t leave your house.”

Donald Trump has a lot of experiences working deals in dire situations and if there’s one thing he knows, its how to keep himself out of COMPLETE trouble. Following Donald Trump’s Bankruptcy advice is not necessarily a guarantee success but its worth a shot. Best case scenario you have a new interest rate that you can afford. Worst case, you’re in the exact same position you started out in.

So what went wrong with the Trump Shuttle? Since Trump first came into ownership of the airline, it almost immediately coming into contact with financial worries. For starters, a lot of the Shuttle’s “important” passengers enjoyed the airline mostly for the fact that it was convenient rather than caring about the luxuries that came along with it. As a result The shuttle was losing its passengers to Pan Am and Amtrak, who had more convenient and cost effective plans coming out.  Worst of all in the middle of 1990, gas prices doubled due to the invasion of Kuwait.

The Trump Shuttle never did make any money, and as the debt load increased without prices to balance it out, Mr. Trump’s creditors became worried. Rightfully so too, since shortly thereafter, the loands were defaulted and the creditors came into ownership of the shuttle and due to the Gulf War, they were unable to achieve a good selling price for the operation.

The Trump Shuttle became no more when it merged with Shuttle Inc, operating as USAir Shuttle in 1992.

Mr. Trump had previous experience with operating a helicoptor service in Atlantic City. As a result of losing the Trump Shuttle, he came very close to losing his helicoptor company which had started to expand in Manhatten and the Hamptons. However, he managed to maintain this service for private rich gamblers.

Like the Taj Mahal Hotel and Casino, the Trump Plaza Hotel had it’s share of financial problems. Trump was forced to give up 49% of the hotel to Citibank and various lenders that needed to collect something for the millions of dollars The Trump Organization owed in towering debt service payments. Under this plan, Donald Trump would remain as the chief exectuvive but not be paid as such and no longer remain in control of day to day operations.

The Trump Plaza, not making enough to make up for the debt service payments, was forced to file a Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. Over $550 million had accumulated in debt. The Lenders gave Trump more favorable terms in exchange for the large portion of the Hotel.

Although Mr. Trump was having great success in her earlier years with hotels and real estate under his father’s employment, it just goes to show that success doesn’t always result due to prior success. Circumstances that are unforeseen can make even the wealthiest of men come to grips with the reality of debt and bankruptcy. Likewise, failure doesn’t always result in continual favor as seen in Donald Trumps later accomplishments.

So what was the result of this terrible financial debacle? Trump, along with the advice of his legal council, came to an agreement with the Banks and Bond Holders, who had already lost millions of dollars but were trying to stave off their losses, to reconstruct his debt. In order to do this, however, he had to get a court approved petition insuring that the Casino would meet competitive projections for earnings and profits. Otherwise, he would lose control of the Board.

On October 5, 1991, Trump gave 50% of the ownership to those Bond Holders and Banks that he was in agreement with, in order to establish lower interest rates and extend the time of payoff.

Although, he is now out of Bankruptcy, it was a trialing time for Trump  but inspite of it all, he still manages to hold onto half of the building which is one of the most recognized Casinos in Alantic City.
